Now Hiring: Trainee Water Operator

Are you looking to start a hands-on career in the water utilities industry? Durham Park Water Supply Corp is seeking a motivated Trainee Water Operator to support daily operations and learn the essential skills required to help maintain safe, reliable drinking water for our community. No prior water operations experience is required — just a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Do

As a Trainee Water Operator, you will work directly with certified operators to gain real-world experience in the field and prepare to earn your Class D Water Operator License (required within 1 year of start date). Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with daily operational tasks, well meter readings, and chlorine level checks
  • Monitoring the service area to identify potential leaks and generating repair work orders
  • Responding to customer service calls and reporting billing or service needs
  • Reading customer meters monthly and assisting with preventative maintenance
  • Supporting system repairs: piping, valves, pumps, electrical, and related equipment
  • Helping with water shut-offs/re-activations due to non-payment or freeze-related issues
  • Participating in inspections of plants, storage tanks, meters, generators, and infrastructure
  • Working on capital improvements and other assigned projects as needed
  • Performing general field support duties to keep the system operating safely and efficiently

What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with smartphones, tablets, and email
  • Commitment to earning a Class D Water Operator license within 1 year
  • Construction or mechanical aptitude is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Dependable, motivated, and ready to learn an in-demand trade

Pay Range: $15–$20/hour
Hours: Part-time (~20 hours/week)
